2023 UMi Begins Educating Syracuse University Students on Data Sovereignty

Future-proof industries require data-savvy entrepreneurs—UMi introduces Data Sovereignty to Syracuse University’s innovation community.

UMi partnered with Syracuse University’s Blackstone LaunchPad at SU Libraries, an innovation hub supporting entrepreneurs, to introduce Data Sovereignty as a critical emerging field. Recognizing that student-athletes and young entrepreneurs are shaping future-proof industries, UMi provided insights into the NESD framework and how students can actively build businesses around ethical data use. The LaunchPad, led by Traci Geisler, has historically supported over 6,500 entrepreneurs and 2,200 ventures, securing $142M+ in equity investments. UMi’s initiative ensures that these future innovators understand how data ownership, governance, and commercializationplay a role in digital entrepreneurship. The program also emphasizes diversity and inclusion, with over 50% of ventures led by women in CEO or C-Suite roles.
