2019 UN Working Group Identifies the Attention Economy as Critical Infrastructure

The Attention Economy is shaping digital infrastructure—UMi is pioneering ways to ensure that it centers human well-being and data sovereignty.

In 2019, a UN Working Group identified the Attention Economy as a fundamental part of future economic infrastructure, with both risks and transformative potential. Experts Dr. Patricia Klaurer and Kristoph Doefler helped define a framework for shifting from today’s exploitative model to a Conscious Attention Economy (CAE)—one where human attention is treated as a valuable, ethical resource. The report emphasized ten universal principles to guide this transition, incorporating digital tools like Web1, Web2, Web3, and the Overweb. UMi actively participates in this movement, bringing Data Sovereignty to the table and ensuring that emerging attention-driven economies support communities, rather than extract value from them.
