2018 UMi Declares Data Sovereignty a Public Benefit

The digital economy is transforming, but without ethical infrastructure, communities remain vulnerable. UMi champions Data Sovereignty as a fundamental right.

With the 5th Phase of the Industrial Revolution driving investment into AI, blockchain, and emerging technologies, communities generate contextual data of immense value. However, much of the current digital infrastructure fails to protect these communities, operating on a rapidly aging and increasingly exploitative “Flat Web.”UMi argues that transitioning to the Metaweb, which exists above the traditional internet, is a necessary evolution. In its early R&D phases, UMi convened public and private stakeholders to discuss the infrastructure required for sustainable, ethical digital ecosystems, solidifying Data Sovereignty as a core public benefit.
